Microsoft haven't worked out all the kinks. Hi Simadowna,. I understand that you are also facing a freezing issue on Windows Vista. Please understand that this kind of issues are mainly caused by the following factors:. Incompatible third-party programs. Incompatible hardware or hardware limitations.
Virus infection. As we know, Windows Vista needs a higher hardware requirements to run properly. Therefore, some computers running Windows XP may not able to run Windows Vista well due to its hardware limitations. Although some third-party hardware manufacturers claim that their products have already been compatible with Windows Vista, there still exists incompatibility.
Microsoft is now developing Windows Vista Service Pack 1 to improve the system performance. Currently, you can format the drive and reinstall the system to get a clean environment of Windows Vista.
If it still freezes, the issue is probably caused by the incompatible hardware or hardware limitation. You can unplug all unnecessary hardware devices such as sound card, printer and network card to narrow down the cause. If the culprit is found, you may need to upgrade the hardware. I also purchased my computer and then received the Vista upgrade about 2 months later.
I have been extremely disappointed with the quality of Vista. This is a brand new computer and what is worse is that it seems that no one is doing anything to help those who spend hundreds of dollars to get Vista. I have a D-link DWL g wirelless adapter, this adapter appears on Microsoft compability list, and it does work when i get windows to start-up. It is annoying, but the way I keep windows from freezing at the loading screen is by entering on save mode, then I disable the adapter and then I restart my PC, after that windows loads without a problem, then and this is the part i don't understand I'm re-enable the wireless adapter and it works just fine.
The downside of all this is that I have to make sure to disabling the wireless adapter before I restart or shutdown the PC, otherwise I have to go into safe mode to get it working again. Find the "Wireless Network Connection" and save a shortcut to it on your desktop. You should then be able to "Disable" this by right clicking and selecting "disable" from the options. Once your network is disabled red cross through the "Currently Connected to" icon in your taskbar?
This method is applicable only to Windows 8, Windows Server , and later versions of Windows virtual machines. For the earlier versions of Windows, see methods 1 through 4 that are described earlier in this section. You can use VMware Snapshots or suspend state and extract a memory dump file equivalent to a complete memory dump file.
By using Checkpoint To Core Tool vmss2core , you can convert both suspend. On Windows Server , you may not have enough free disk space to generate a complete memory dump file on the system volume. There's a hotfix that allows for the data collection even though there isn't sufficient space on the system drive to store the memory dump file. Additionally, on Windows Server Service Pack SP2 , there's a second option if the system drive doesn't have sufficient space.
Namely, you can use the DedicatedDumpFile registry entry. For more information, see How to use the DedicatedDumpFile registry value to overcome space limitations on the system drive. Note Follow the steps in this section carefully. Warning Follow the steps in this section carefully. Note If it isn't possible to access the affected computer through the network, try to generate a memory dump file through NMI interruption. Note In case accessing the operating system isn't possible, try to access Registry Editor on the computer remotely in order to check the type of memory dump file and page file with which the computer is currently configured.
You can, of course, try reinstalling Firefox. If it was a corrupted file, it would have been removed with uninstallation and should be fixed if you reinstall Firefox, or AIM for that matter. The other thing we could consider is that AIM and Firefox both use the network card, and it could be that we need to update your network driver if that got corrupted.
You can find your network driver at esupport. Or, if you post that model number here, I'd be happy to find the specific driver you need. You're probably looking for a driver for the Wireless Network card. Posted 07 October - PM.
How has your computer been acting lately? Any improvement? Posted 08 October - AM. I haven't had the chance to shut down and start it up a few times to test it so I would like to see how it runs for a couple days. I will let you know after a few startups and shut downs! Interesting thing happened today.. I started up my laptop, and everything started up fine.
So I plugged in my wireless mouse and that worked fine too. Then because I have Comcast I had to go reset the modem and router because like usual I couldn't connect to the Internet. After about 5 minutes or so I went back upstairs to my laptop and double clicked Chrome to start, but nothing popped up. I clicked Start and then tried to open Google Talk too but nothing.
Clicking to open my Documents and Network also just brought up blank Windows Explorer tabs. The screen returned to my desktop and after a little while everything I had tried to open popped up at once I think my laptop is responding slower than normal, but this time it didn't freeze.
I would recommend going back into msconfig and disabling some of the startup programs that you don't think you need. Google is going to be your friend here for figuring out what you can and can't disable hint: don't disable any Microsoft services.
I don't really need that running in the background. If after this you are still having problems, I'd go ahead and have you install that network driver I linked you to. Probably a coincidence that your computer slowed way down when you rebooted the router Posted 09 October - AM.
I also disabled some VAIO extras yesterday. Posted 09 October - PM. The same thing just happened again - Chrome stopped responding while I was browsing and then everything else I clicked after that popped up all at once after a few minutes.
What could be causing this? At least it's not completely freezing. Posted 11 October - PM. Good Luck! Hello Christina,. I am glad to hear that the problem doesn't occur in Windows Clean Boot mode , which indicates this issue is related to certain startup item or the service. Then, please continue to check back one startup item at a time and confirm which software is the real cause of the problem.
Tip: I understand that the process for pinpointing the culprit is a little time-consuming. Considering this, I advise you to try the half-half method:. The first time, check half of the start-up items and then reboot. If the issue reappears, you will know that it is being caused by one of those items.
If not, you will know it is being caused by an item in the other half. You can then continue with this method until you find the item that causes the issue.
I hope this method can save you some time. Your patience and understanding are appreciated. Have a nice day!
